Viewing Stereos

The stereo photographs are all presented as pairs, One image for the left eye and one image for the right eye. When displayed in the browser window, the images are loaded with the left image centered in the left half and the right image centered in the right half of the browser window. If you resize the browser window and reload, the images will be resized to fit the new configuration. You can use the controls at the bottom of the page to zoom in and out of the photograph and move around to see details.

To use the stereo viewer, pop it open and look through the openings on the side with the prisms. (“View from this side” is printed on the viewer.) The best results are obtained when the distance from the viewer to the screen is approximately twice the width of the browser window.

Navigating the Images

When viewing the images, there are controls available on the screen to let move move within and between images. In the upper left corner there will be two arrows. Clicking on an arrow will move you backwards or forwards throungh the sequence of images.

The image control panel at the bottom of the page lets you explore the high resolution digital images.  You can zoom into the stereo image and move the window around to see details or zoom out to get a view of the entire image.  The + and - buttons control zooming and the four arrow buttons move the viewing window around the image.  The circle with the arrow will return you to the initial image view. You can also do the navigation using the mouse.  The position of triangle shows the current zoom setting and can be slid left or right using the mouse with the left button down to zoom in or out.  When zoomed in, the position of the image can be moved using the mouse.  After moving the mouse into the image and depressing the left button, movements of the mouse will be translated into movements of the image. As long as sync is checked on the control bar, the views for the left and rght are synchronized and the details can be seen in 3D.
